It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out at some part of the day. He did not speak to me, nor did I speak to him, until he came to the market of Banu Qaynuqa‘ and sat down in the courtyard of the house of Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: “Is the little master here? Is the little master here?” So his mother held him (Sayyiduna Hasan, may Allah be pleased with him) back for some need. I thought that his mother was adorning him with a necklace or bathing him. Then he came running until he embraced the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) around the neck. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) kissed him and said: “O Allah! Love him, and love the one who loves him.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Apparently, this hadith has no direct connection with the chapter, however, it establishes that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam went outside, and in the previous hadith as well, his going outside is mentioned. ➋ From this, we learn about his humility and affection and attachment towards children, and also the virtue of Sayyiduna Hasan radi Allahu anhu becomes evident. ➌ Small children may be adorned with garlands and the like; however, wearing gold is absolutely impermissible in any case. ➍ From the apparent wording of the hadith, it seems as if the house of Fatimah radi Allahu anha was in the market of Banu Qaynuqa, whereas in reality, this is not the case. In fact, this narration is abridged; in the detailed narration, it is mentioned that he returned and then sat in the courtyard of Fatimah’s house. For details, see hadith (1183) of this book.
