Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: ➊ The goodness or badness of any person cannot be known until some days are spent with him; for this reason, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: The good and best person is the one who is well-wishing towards his friends and treats them well, because when people live together, ups and downs occur in relationships, yet the one who continues to show good conduct is certainly good in the sight of Allah as well. The relationship with a neighbor is even stronger than that with an ordinary friend, and more time is spent with neighbors than with relatives and family members; therefore, if a person, after spending so much time with them, still treats them well, is patient over their harm, and is well-wishing towards them, then he will, all the more so, be better with the general people.
➋ The servants of Allah are His witnesses on earth. If the servants testify to someone’s goodness or badness, then in the sight of Allah he will be as such. Allah also values the one who treats people—especially friends and neighbors—with good conduct, and he is given the glad tidings that he is highly honored with Allah. Turning away from one’s own and mistreating them, while showing affection and intimacy with outsiders, is among the signs of the Day of Judgment.
