Hadith 1140

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "None of you should make someone get up from his place and then sit there himself; rather, make room and spread out."

Benefits and Issues:
This refers to a general gathering; however, if it is someone’s private assembly and they do not wish to include a particular person, then he may be asked to leave. In general gatherings, one should make room and accommodate newcomers, expanding the circle as needed. Similarly, the newcomer should sit wherever space is available and should not inconvenience others.
