It is narrated from Saif bin Wahb that Abu Tufail asked me: How old are you? I said: I am thirty-three years old. He said: Shall I not narrate to you a hadith which I heard from Sayyiduna Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him)? The story is that a man from Banu Muharib bin Khasafah, who was called Amr bin Sali’ (may Allah be pleased with him), and who had the honor of being a companion, his age was as much as mine is today, and I am today of your age. We came to Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the mosque and I sat at the end of the people, and Amr went forward and stood before him and said: O Abdullah! How did you find your morning? Or he said: How did you find your evening? He replied: I thank Allah. Amr said: What things are reaching us regarding you? He said: O Amr! What has reached you regarding me? He said: Such ahadith which I have not heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said: By Allah! If I narrate to you everything I have heard, you would not wait for me until nightfall. But O Amr bin Sali’! When you see that Qais have gained power in Syria, then beware. By Allah! Banu Qais will not leave any believing servant except that they will either frighten him or kill him. By Allah! A time will come upon them that their control will be everywhere. He said: May Allah have mercy on you, what help will you give to your people? He replied: That remains upon me (what I have to do). Then he sat down.

Benefits and Issues: The chain of narration of this report is weak; however, the words that follow are established as authentic based on other supporting evidences. The intention of Sayyiduna Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu was to point out the tribulations (fitan) that were to befall this ummah in the future. When Sayyiduna Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu was asked regarding the era of these tribulations, he replied: At this time, it is premature to say anything; when that time comes, we will see what is to be done.
