It is narrated from Abu al-Zinad, may Allah have mercy on him, that he obtained this letter from Kharijah bin Zaid and the prominent people of the family of Zaid. «بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم». From Zaid bin Thabit to the servant of Allah, the Commander of the Faithful, Muawiyah. Peace and Allah’s mercy be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful. I praise Allah, besides whom there is no true deity. To proceed: You have asked about the inheritance of the grandfather and brothers (and then the entire letter was mentioned), and we ask Allah for guidance, protection, and steadfastness in our affairs, and we seek Allah’s refuge from going astray, falling into ignorance, or being burdened with a responsibility of which we have no knowledge. «والسلام علیک امیر المومنین ورحمۃ الله وبرکاتہ ومغفرتہ». This letter was written by Wahib on Thursday, when twelve days of Ramadan, 42 AH, remained.
