Hadith 11

Saeed bin Abu Burdah says that I heard my father narrate that Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw a man from Yemen performing Tawaf of the Ka'bah, and he had his mother on his back, and he was reciting these verses: "I am a trained camel for my mother; if her mounts are frightened, I will not be frightened." Then he asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): What do you think, have I repaid my mother? He said: No, not even for a single breath (of her labor). Then Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) performed Tawaf and, coming to Maqam Ibrahim, offered two rak'ahs and said: O son of Abu Musa! Every two rak'ahs become an expiation for the sins committed before them.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ This hadith establishes that an elderly person may perform Hajj even if he is unable to walk by himself, and it also demonstrates the permissibility of performing tawaf (circumambulation) while riding or on a conveyance.
➋ This hadith shows that no matter how much a person serves his parents, he cannot fully repay their rights—especially the mother, who, for the sake of her children, returns from the brink of death many times. In this, there is encouragement to show the utmost good conduct towards parents, and that a servant should be eager to treat his parents as well as possible. Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma informed the Yemeni man that, compared to the hardship a mother endures at the time of childbirth, he had not yet repaid even a single breath of hers.
➌ Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah states that from this hadith, one can estimate the reward of the mother: how great is the reward a woman receives for giving birth to a child. Therefore, women should avoid planning (to prevent childbirth) in order to attain this reward and merit.
➍ From Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma performing prayer at Maqam Ibrahim and mentioning its virtue, the importance of voluntary (nafl) prayer becomes clear. From this, it is understood that just as prayer is a means of attaining closeness to Allah, it is also the best means of expiation for sins.
