It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: When you go to your family, say «السلام» to them. This is a blessed and pure gift from Allah. Then he said: In my opinion, according to the command of Allah, «وَإِذَاحُيِّيتُمْبِتَحِيَّةٍفَحَيُّوابِأَحْسَنَمِنْهَاأَوْرُدُّوهَا»[سورہ النساء: 86] "When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it or (at least) return it in a like manner." it is obligatory to reply to the greeting.

Benefits and Issues: Greeting the members of the household with salam is a virtuous act and is their right, which must be fulfilled. Just as replying to salam is obligatory upon other people, in the same way, it is also necessary for the members of the household to reply to salam.
