Hadith 1087

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went towards the mosque and Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) was reciting (the Qur'an). The Prophet (peace be upon him), seeing me, said: "Who are you?" I replied: "I am Buraidah, may I be sacrificed for you." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "This person (Abu Musa) has certainly been given the melodious voice of Dawud (peace be upon him)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The point is that when someone asks, "Who are you?" one should introduce oneself by stating one's name and address. Saying, "I am me," is a meaningless statement, which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam disliked.

In another hadith, Sayyiduna Buraydah radi Allahu anhu introduced himself by stating his name. Also, by "the family of Dawud," what is meant is Sayyiduna Dawud alayhis salam himself.
