Hadith 1065

It is narrated from Ubaid bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), but due to some engagement, he did not grant permission, so Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) returned. When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became free, he said: I heard the voice of Abdullah bin Qais, allow him to come in. It was said: He has gone back. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) called for him, so he said: We were commanded regarding this matter. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Bring evidence (a witness) for this matter (that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gave this command), so he went to the gathering of the Ansar and asked them. They said: Our young master Abu Sa'id Khudri will testify to your statement, so they brought Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Did this command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remain hidden from me? The buying and selling in the market distracted me, meaning that going for trade caused it to remain hidden from me.
