It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I was eating date halwa with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by. The Prophet (peace be upon him) called him, so he also started eating. During this, his hand touched my finger, so he said: Oh, if my opinion regarding you had been accepted, no eye would have seen you. Upon this, the command of veiling was revealed.

Benefits and Issues:
A wife may eat with her husband from the same vessel; there is no legal objection to this in the Shari‘ah. In fact, it is recommended (mustahabb) and a cause of love and affection. However, after the revelation of the verses of hijab, it is no longer permissible to eat together with a non-mahram.
