حَدَّثَنَا عَيَّاشُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلاَلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لأَبِي ذَرٍّ: مَرَرْتُ بِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أُمِّ الْحَكَمِ فَسَلَّمْتُ، فَمَا رَدَّ عَلَيَّ شَيْئًا؟ فَقَالَ: يَا ابْنَ أَخِي، مَا يَكُونُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ رَدَّ عَلَيْكَ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ، مَلَكٌ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: I said to Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that I passed by Abdur Rahman bin Umm al-Hakam and greeted him with salam, but he did not reply to me. He said: My nephew! There is no need for you to be upset. Someone better than him has replied to your salam, that is, the angel on his right side.
