Hadith 1029

It is narrated from Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) recognized Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: «حَيَّاكَ اللَّهُ» “May Allah keep you alive.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The chain of narration (isnad) of this athar is disconnected (munqati‘). The researcher of this book, ‘Isam Musa Hadi, has quoted the commentary of ‘Allamah Nasir al-Din al-Albani rahimahullah, who stated: “Its chain is weak,” and then, after mentioning some details, in most cases he said: “So the athar is authentic; this athar is established as authentic.” In reality, there is a difference of opinion regarding whether al-Sha‘bi met ‘Umar radi Allahu anhu. The correct view is that their meeting is established; therefore, its chain is authentic.
