It is narrated from Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come at night, he would greet in such a manner that the one who was asleep would not wake up and the one who was awake would hear it.

Benefits and Issues: It is necessary to observe politeness and consideration for the addressees in greeting (salam). It is not correct to say salam in a loud manner at every place and at all times. One should greet (say salam) while keeping in mind the environment and the appropriate time.
