Hadith 1013

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked: O Messenger of Allah! Which Islam is best? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Feed (others), and greet both those you know and those you do not know with peace (salam)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ By “the best Islam” is meant: which habits and virtues are good in Islam. In Sahih Muslim, it is stated: which Muslims are good. The meaning is: by adopting which virtues can a person become a good Muslim?
➋ If, at times, something else has been declared as the best aspect of Islam, this is not a contradiction; rather, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave different answers to this question according to different people and circumstances.
➌ Although this ruling is general, disbelievers (kuffar) are exempted from it. Initiating the greeting (salam) to them has been prohibited. In one narration, greeting only specific people has been described as a sign of the Hour (Qiyamah).
