باب فِيمَنْ يَهْجُرُ أَخَاهُ الْمُسْلِمَ
Chapter: Regarding a man abandoning his brother.
Hadith 4910
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا تَبَاغَضُوا وَلَا تَحَاسَدُوا وَلَا تَدَابَرُوا وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثِ لَيَالٍ " .
Anas bin Malik reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Do not hate each other ; do not envy each other; do not desert each other; and be the servants of Allah as brethren. It is not allowable for a Muslim to keep apart from his brother for more than three days.
Hadith 4911
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ يَلْتَقِيَانِ فَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا وَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا وَخَيْرُهُمَا الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ بِالسَّلَامِ " .
Abu Ayyub al-Ansari reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: it is not allowable for a Muslim to keep apart from his brother for more than three days. When they meet, this turns away from him, and that turns away from him. The better of the two is the one who initiates in salutation.
Hadith 4912
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ , وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ السَّرْخَسِيُّ ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَامِرٍ أَخْبَرَهُمْ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُؤْمِنٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ مُؤْمِنًا فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ فَإِنْ مَرَّتْ بِهِ ثَلَاثٌ فَلْيَلْقَهُ فَلْيُسَلِّمْ عَلَيْهِ فَإِنْ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ فَقَدِ اشْتَرَكَا فِي الْأَجْرِ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِالْإِثْمِ " زَادَ أَحْمَدُ وَخَرَجَ الْمُسَلِّمُ مِنَ الْهِجْرَةِ .
Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet ﷺ said: It is not allowable for a believer to keep from a believer for more than three days. If three days pass, he should meet him and give him a salutation, and if he replies to it they will both have shared in the reward; but if he does not reply he will bear his sin (according to Ahmad's version) and the one who gives the salutation will have come forth from the sin of keeping apart.
Hadith 4913
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّي ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَثْمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُنِيبِ يَعْنِي الْمَدَنِيَّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يَكُونُ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ مُسْلِمًا فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةٍ فَإِذَا لَقِيَهُ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَا يَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِإِثْمِهِ " .
Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It is not right for a Muslim to keep apart from another Muslim for more than three days. Then when he meets him and gives three salutations, receiving during that time no response, the other bears his sin.
Hadith 4914
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ فَمَنْ هَجَرَ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ فَمَاتَ دَخَلَ النَّارَ " .
Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet ﷺ said: It is not allowable for a Muslim to keep apart from his brother for more than three days, for one who does so and dies will enter Hell.
Hadith 4915
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ السَّرْحِ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ حَيْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي خِرَاشٍ السُّلَمِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ هَجَرَ أَخَاهُ سَنَةً فَهُوَ كَسَفْكِ دَمِهِ " .
Narrated AbuKhirash as-Sulami: AbuKhirash heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: If one keeps apart from his brother for a year, it is like shedding his blood.
Hadith 4916
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " تُفْتَحُ أَبْوَابُ الْجَنَّةِ كُلَّ يَوْمِ اثْنَيْنِ وَخَمِيسٍ فَيُغْفَرُ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَيْنِ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مَنْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ أَخِيهِ شَحْنَاءُ ، فَيُقَالُ : أَنْظِرُوا هَذَيْنِ حَتَّى يَصْطَلِحَا " , قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد : النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَجَرَ بَعْضَ نِسَائِهِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا ، وَابْنُ عُمَرَ هَجَرَ ابْنًا لَهُ إِلَى أَنْ مَاتَ ، قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد : إِذَا كَانَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ لِلَّهِ فَلَيْسَ مِنْ هَذَا بِشَيْءٍ ، وَإِنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ غَطَّى وَجْهَهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ .
Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The gates of Paradise are opened on Mondays and Thursdays, and forgiveness is granted to every man who does not associate anything with Allah, except for a man between whom and his brother there is rancor. Command will be given that they should be given respite till they conciliate. Abu Dawud said: The Prophet ﷺ kept apart from some of his wives for forty days, and Ibn Umar kept apart from his son till he died. Abu Dawud said: If keeping apart is meant for the sake of Allah, then it has no concern with it. Umar bin Abd al-Aziz covered his face from a man.
