Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Faith has over seventy branches, the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is no god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the removal of a bone from the road. And modesty is a branch of faith.

Ibn Abbas said: When the deputation of Abd al-Qais came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he commanded them to believe in Allah. He asked: Do you know what faith in Allah is? They replied: Allah and his Messenger know best. He said: It includes the testimony that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger, the observance of the prayer, the payment of zakat, the fasts of Ramadan, and your giving a fifth of the booty.

Abdullah bin Umar reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: I did not see more defective in respect of reason and religion than the wise of you (women). A woman asked: What is the defect of reason and religion ? He replied: The defect of reason is the testimony of two women for one man, and the defect of faith is that one of you does not fast during Ramadan (when one is menstruating), and keep away from prayer for some days.
