Chapter: The Rights Of A Woman Upon Her Husband.
Hadith 2142
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو قَزَعَةَ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْقُشَيْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا حَقُّ زَوْجَةِ أَحَدِنَا عَلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ تُطْعِمَهَا إِذَا طَعِمْتَ ، وَتَكْسُوَهَا إِذَا اكْتَسَيْتَ أَوِ اكْتَسَبْتَ ، وَلَا تَضْرِبْ الْوَجْهَ ، وَلَا تُقَبِّحْ وَلَا تَهْجُرْ إِلَّا فِي الْبَيْتِ " . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد : وَلَا تُقَبِّحْ ، أَنْ تَقُولَ : قَبَّحَكِ اللَّهُ .
Narrated Muawiyah al-Qushayri: Muawiyah asked: Messenger of Allah, what is the right of the wife of one of us over him? He replied: That you should give her food when you eat, clothe her when you clothe yourself, do not strike her on the face, do not revile her or separate yourself from her except in the house. Abu Dawud said: The meaning of "do not revile her" is, as you say: "May Allah revile you".
Hadith 2143
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ جَدِّي ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، نِسَاؤُنَا مَا نَأْتِي مِنْهُنَّ وَمَا نَذَرُ ؟ قَالَ : " ائْتِ حَرْثَكَ أَنَّى شِئْتَ ، وَأَطْعِمْهَا إِذَا طَعِمْتَ ، وَاكْسُهَا إِذَا اكْتَسَيْتَ ، وَلَا تُقَبِّحْ الْوَجْهَ وَلَا تَضْرِبْ " . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد : رَوَى شُعْبَةُ تُطْعِمُهَا إِذَا طَعِمْتَ وَتَكْسُوهَا إِذَا اكْتَسَيْتَ .
Bahz bin Hakim reported on the authority of his father from his grandfather (Muawiyah ibn Haydah) as saying: I said: Messenger of Allah, how should we approach our wives and how should we leave them? He replied: Approach your tilth when or how you will, give her (your wife) food when you take food, clothe when you clothe yourself, do not revile her face, and do not beat her. Abu Dawud said: The version of Shubah has: That you give her food when you have food yourself, and that you clothe her when you clothe yourself.
Hadith 2144
أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْمُهَلَّبِيُّ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ الْوَرَّاقِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْقُشَيْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : مَا تَقُولُ فِي نِسَائِنَا ؟ قَالَ : " أَطْعِمُوهُنَّ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ ، وَاكْسُوهُنَّ مِمَّا تَكْتَسُونَ ، وَلَا تَضْرِبُوهُنَّ وَلَا تُقَبِّحُوهُنَّ " .
Narrated Muawiyah al-Qushayri: I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him: What do you say (command) about our wives? He replied: Give them food what you have for yourself, and clothe them by which you clothe yourself, and do not beat them, and do not revile them.
