Hadith 4556

Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet ﷺ said: The fingers are equal: ten camels for each finger.
Abu Dawood says: Abu Ubaid and many others said: When a camel enters its fourth year, the male is called «حق» and the female is called «حقة», because at this stage it becomes suitable for carrying loads and for riding. When it enters its fifth year, the male is called «جذع» and the female is called «جذعة». When it enters its sixth year and sheds its front teeth, the male is called «ثني» and the female is called «ثنية». When it enters its seventh year, the male is called «رباع» and the female is called «رباعية». When it enters its eighth year and sheds the tooth that comes after «رباعية», the male is called «سديس» and the female is called «سدس». When it enters its ninth year and its canines appear, it is called «بازل». When it enters its tenth year, it is «مخلف»; after that, it has no specific name, but it is said: one year old «بازل», two years old «بازل», one year old «مخلف», two years old «مخلف», and so on as it increases in age. Nadr bin Shumail says: one year old is «بنت مخاض», two years old is «بنت لبون», three years old is «حقة», four years old is «جذعة», five years old is «ثني», six years old is «رباع», seven years old is «سديس», eight years old is «بازل». Abu Dawood says: Abu Hatim and Asma‘i said: «جذوعة» is a period of time, not the name of a specific age. Abu Hatim says: When a camel drops its «رباعیہ», it is «رباع», and when it drops its «ثنیہ», it is «ثني». Abu Ubaid says: When it becomes pregnant, it is called «خلفہ», and it is called «خلفة» for ten months; when it completes ten months, it is called «عشراء». Abu Hatim said: When it drops its «ثنیہ», it is «ثني», and when it drops its «رباعیہ», it is «رباع».

1652. Commentary:
➊ One should not disrespect food. If it is found in a [clean] condition, it should be picked up. And consuming it is its proper use. It is necessary to avoid doubtful things.
➋ The statement of Imam Abu Dawud rahimahullah alludes to the fact that in the previous hadith from Hammad, the understanding of Anas radi Allahu anhu was mentioned: that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would not pick up any date out of fear that it might be from charity. However, in the narration of Hisham and Khalid ibn Qays, the actual statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is mentioned. The hadith of Hisham is narrated in Sahih Muslim. (Sahih Muslim, Al-Zakat, Hadith 1071) (Awn al-Ma‘bud)
