This tradition has also been reported by Uqbah bin Amr through a different chain of narrators. This version adds: Say, O Allah, bless Muhammad, the Prophet, the unlettered, and Muhammad’s family.

981. Commentary: The meaning of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) being "unlettered" (ummi) is that he was not taught in the conventional manner among the people. Rather, he is a student of Jibril Amin (the trustworthy Gabriel).
