Narrated Samurah ibn Jundub: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us (to recite) when we sit in the middle of the prayer or at its end before the salutation: The adorations of the tongue, all good things, acts of worship, and the Kingdom are due to Allah. Then give salutation to the right side; then salute your reciter (i. e. the imam) and yourselves. Abu Dawud said: Sulaiman bin Musa hails from Kufah and he lives in Damascus. Abu Dawud said: This collection of traditions indicates that al-Hasan (al-Basri) heard traditions from Samurah (b. Jundub).

Brief Explanation
1؎ : The relevance of this sentence to the chapter is that these words, which Sulayman bin Samrah narrated from his father Samrah radi Allahu anhu, are the words of that written document (sahifah) which Samrah dictated, and which his son Sulayman narrated from him. Abu Dawud’s purpose is to show that just as Sulayman bin Samrah’s hearing (sama‘) from his father Samrah is established, likewise Hasan al-Basri’s hearing is also established, because both are narrators of the third generation (tabi‘ tabi‘in). So, when Sulayman could hear from his father Samrah, there is nothing preventing Hasan al-Basri’s hearing as well. Some people say that Hasan al-Basri only heard the hadith about ‘aqiqah from Samrah, and the rest of the ahadith which he narrates from Samrah are those written in this sahifah, not directly heard from Samrah. Abu Dawud has refuted this notion.
