Ibn Umar reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: The adoration of the tongue are due to Allah, and acts of worship, all good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and His blessings. Ibn Umar said: I added: “And Allah’s blessings, peace be upon us, and upon Allah’s upright servants. I testify that there is not god but Allah. “Ibn Umar said: I added to it: He is alone, no one is His associate, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.

Brief Explanation
1؎: These two additions in the tashahhud are indeed established from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam; it is by no means the case that Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma added them on his own accord. Rather, he included these additions in his tashahhud having received them from those noble Companions radi Allahu anhum who narrated them from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

971. Commentary: The words which Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma described as his own addition are in fact established in the marfu’ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) ahadith found in Bukhari and Muslim. See: [صحيح بخاري۔ حديث 831۔ وصحيح مسلم حديث 402] ➋ This clarification demonstrates the trustworthiness and integrity of these noble companions, in that they would not attribute any statement to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam unless they had complete certainty.
