Narrated Abdullah ibn Mughaffal: Abdullah heard his son praying to Allah: O Allah, I ask Thee a white palace on the right of Paradise when I enter it. He said: O my son, ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from Hell-Fire, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: In this community there will be some people who will exceed the limits in purification as well as in supplication.

1؎: Exceeding the limits in purification means that, in ablution (wudu), ritual bath (ghusl), or using water for relieving oneself, more water is used than the amount specified by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) without necessity. And exceeding the limits in supplication (dua) means abandoning the supplications of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and instead reciting supplications filled with affectation, rhyme, and artificiality composed by others, or exceeding the bounds of propriety, or supplicating for something that goes against maintaining family ties, or for an unlawful (non-shari‘ah-compliant) desire.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues: ➊ It is understood that to waste excessive water in purification (istinja, ablution [wudu], ritual bath [ghusl], etc.) is impermissible. Especially, to fall into doubt regarding istinja is not from the Shariah; rather, after ablution, one should sprinkle water on the private area. ➋ Supplication (dua) should also be comprehensive, just as those transmitted and prescribed from the Noble Qur’an and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

´It was narrated from Abu Na'amah that :` 'Abdullah bin Mughaffal heard his son say: "O Allah, I ask You for the white palace on the right-hand side of Paradise, when I enter it." He said: "O my son, ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge with Him from Hell, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (saas) say: 'There will be people who will transgress in supplication.'"
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Benefits and Issues:
➊ It is necessary to keep in mind the greatness and reverence of Allah Ta'ala in supplication (du'a).
➋ Whoever reaches Paradise (Jannah) will receive there every thing that he desires; therefore, it is not necessary to mention the details of the blessings of Paradise in supplication.
➌ It is permissible to supplicate for Jannat al-Firdaws or for the neighborhood of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), because glad tidings for these have been mentioned regarding certain deeds.
