حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ الْعَسْقَلَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ أَخِي الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَوْلًى لِأَسْمَاءَ ابْنَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، قَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُنَّ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَلَا تَرْفَعْ رَأْسَهَا حَتَّى يَرْفَعَ الرِّجَالُ رُءُوسَهُمْ كَرَاهَةَ أَنْ يَرَيْنَ مِنْ عَوْرَاتِ الرِّجَالِ " .
Narrated Asma daughter of Abu Bakr: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: One of you who believes in Allah and in the Last Day should not raise her head until the men raise their heads (after prostration) lest they should see the private parts of men.

851. Commentary:
➊ Due to scarcity of clothing and poverty, some of the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) used to pray in a single sheet. Sometimes, it was so short that they would tie it around their necks. Therefore, these instructions were given, and although circumstances have now changed, acting upon the command of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) remains obligatory. The indication for this is the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) emphasis when he said: “Whoever among you believes in Allah and the Last Day...” Another example of this is performing “raml” (walking briskly with small steps) during the arrival circumambulation (tawaf al-qudum); this too was due to a temporary necessity, yet all the Imams of the Ummah have agreed to maintain this Sunnah «علي حالها».
➋ The female Companions (sahabiyyat) also used to observe the congregational prayer.
➌ It is impermissible to look at another’s ‘awrah (private parts), and one should also avoid the risk of accidentally glancing at it. However, spouses are exempt from this, because they are a garment for one another.

Benefit:
This hadith proves that women can form rows behind men and perform prayer, and this is permissible when there is no fear of temptation (fitnah). Hardship in sustenance should not become an obstacle in worship.
