Hadith 813

HIsham bin Urwah said that his father (‘Umrah) used to recite the surahs as you recite like Wa’l-Adiyat (surah c). Abu Dawud said: This indicates that those (traditions indicating long surahs) are abrogated, and this is more sound tradition.

813. Commentary:
Imam Abu Dawud rahimahullah has regarded this concise recitation as preferable; otherwise, from other authentic narrations, its abrogation is not established. Rather, there is «توسع» in it, and this last narration is the action of a Tabi‘i.
And the final recitation of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in Maghrib was «والمرسلات عرفاً», as has been mentioned in the narration of Umm al-Fadl radi Allahu anha.
