Hadith 802

Abdullah bin Abl Awfa said: The prophet ﷺ used to stand in the rak’ah of prayer so much so that no sound of steps heard.

802. Commentary:
It is permissible in the last two units (rak‘ahs) of Dhuhr and ‘Asr to suffice with only Surah al-Fatihah, and it is also correct to recite more, as will be mentioned ahead.
➋ In silent (sirrī) prayers, it is recommended (mustahabb) for the imam to occasionally recite a verse in a slightly raised voice from his recitation.
➌ It is recommended (mustahabb) to make the first unit (rak‘ah) somewhat longer than the second.
➍ If the imam lengthens the recitation with the intention that people may join the rak‘ah, this is permissible (mubah).
➎ In silent recitation (sirrī qirā’ah), it is necessary that the words be uttered with the tongue, not merely contemplated with closed lips, because the beard of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would move during recitation.
➏ It is understood that the beard of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was so long that it would move when he recited.
