Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: Maymun al-Makki said: that he saw Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr leading in prayer. He pointed with his hands (i. e. raised his hands opposite to the shoulders) when he stood up, when he bowed and when he prostrated, and when he got up after prostration, he pointed with his hands (i. e. raised his hands). The I went to Ibn Abbas and said (to him) I saw Ibn az-Zubayr praying that I never saw anyone praying. I then told him about the pointing with his hands (raising his hands). He said: If you like to see the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ follower the prayer as offered by Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr.

739. Commentary:
In this hadith, the raising of the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn) during prostrations (sujud) is affirmed, but the majority of hadith scholars consider its chain of narration weak due to Ibn Lahi‘ah. In Khulasat Tadhhib Tahdhib al-Kamal by al-Khazraji, it is stated: "Imam Ahmad rahimahullah says that his books were burned, however, these are from the correct books. Those who heard from him in the beginning, their hearing is sound. Yahya ibn Ma‘in said: He is not strong. Imam Muslim says that Waki‘, Yahya al-Qattan, and Ibn Mahdi abandoned him." Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has written that after his books were burned, he became confused. In Sahih Muslim, his narrations are present but only in conjunction with other narrators. According to ‘Allamah al-Albani rahimahullah, this chain is authentic. The aforementioned scholar and some others, in light of these ahadith, interpret the raising of the hands during prostrations as "occasional." In any case, according to the majority of hadith scholars, the narration of Ibn ‘Umar radi Allahu anhuma, which has already been mentioned and is also in Sahih al-Bukhari, is the one that is acted upon, and it explicitly states that "the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not raise his hands during prostrations or when rising from prostrations."
