Hadith 664

Narrated Al-Bara ibn Azib: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pass through the row from one side to the other; he used to set out chests and shoulders in order, and say: Do not be irregular. And he would say: Allah and His angels bless those who are near the first rows.

664. Commentary:
The fact that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself would physically straighten the rows is evidence of how emphatically important this act is. Furthermore, it is necessary that the imam be someone who is knowledgeable, practicing, dignified, and awe-inspiring, as well as good-natured, so that he can actually correct both his juniors and seniors in religious matters. For young, inexperienced, and salaried imams, it is generally difficult to educate and train others in this manner.

647. Commentary:
➊ The muezzin guides people towards righteousness; therefore, he will receive a share equal to their reward for prayer, without any decrease in their reward.
➋ “Affirmation of faith” refers to either on the Day of Resurrection before Allah Almighty, or at the time of the call to prayer (adhan).
Allah Almighty sends down blessings. The angels act as intermediaries, or the angels seek forgiveness, as a result of which Allah Almighty sends down special blessings.

812. Commentary:

➊ It is the duty of the imam to straighten the rows. Although nowadays rows of the same size are laid out and there are lines on the carpets, etc., which make it very easy to straighten the rows, still, due to ignorance and laziness, there remains a need to straighten the rows.

➋ By "front rows" is meant the front row of each mosque and congregation. Due to the abundance of mosques, the plural form is mentioned; otherwise, what is meant is only the front row. Or, it could mean more than one front row.
