حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ بمعنى الإسناد والحديث ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الْحَصِيرِ وَالْفَرْوَةِ الْمَدْبُوغَةِ " .
Narrated Al-Mughirah ibn Shubah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray on a mat and on a tanned skin.

659. Commentary:
This narration is weak in its chain of transmission. However, it is established from authentic hadith that leather becomes pure through tanning ("dyeing"), therefore it is permissible to make a prayer mat or clothing from it, and it is not necessary in prostration (sujud) for the forehead to touch the ground or soil directly.
