It is permissible to pray both while wearing shoes and after removing them. If one is wearing shoes, it is a condition that they be pure. Praying in shoes, in the light of the ahadith, is a valid practice. It has no connection to an increase or decrease in reward, just as is established regarding the use of the miswak and similar matters. Among us, this issue and certain other such matters have become neglected. For the revival of these Sunnahs, it is first necessary—on the basis of «ادع إلىٰ سبيل ربك بالحكمة والموعظة الحسنة» (Surah an-Nahl, verse 125)—to cultivate a motivation of love for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his Sunnah, so that those without knowledge do not become alienated from the religion and from the true scholars.
