Ibn Juraij said; I often saw Ata praying while letting his garment trail. Abu Dawud said: This (practice of Ata) weakens the tradition (narrated by Abu Hurairah).

644. Commentary:
The first chain is hasan (good), and the second (the narration of honey) is sahih (authentic). (Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah). As for the third narration, although the action of the Tabi‘i is authentic in its chain, it is contrary to the aforementioned hadith, and the fact that a narrator acts contrary to his own narration is not evidence of the weakness of that narration. The truth is that in prayer, it is not permissible to place a garment on the head or shoulders without wrapping it, nor to cover the mouth.
