Hadith Takhrij« تفرد به أبو داود (صحیح) »
Brief Explanation
1؎: The narrator’s action contrary to the hadith he narrates is not a valid reason for abandoning that hadith; the real consideration is for the narration itself (if it is authentic), not for the narrator’s action: «الحجة فيما روى، لا فيما رأى». Furthermore, ‘Ata’s fatwa is established in accordance with the hadith, as has been mentioned previously, so weakening the hadith on the basis of ‘Ata’s action is not correct, because it is possible that he forgot while performing sadl or some other excuse occurred.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
644. Commentary: The first chain is hasan (good), and the second (the narration of honey) is sahih (authentic). (Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah). As for the third narration, although the action of the Tabi‘i is authentic in its chain, it is contrary to the aforementioned hadith, and the fact that a narrator acts contrary to his own narration is not evidence of the weakness of that narration. The truth is that in prayer, it is not permissible to place a garment on the head or shoulders without wrapping it, nor to cover the mouth.
