Since, in that era, female Companions (sahabiyyat) also used to attend the prayer and they would be in the back rows, therefore, the men were instructed to wait for a short while so that the women could leave the mosque before the men. Furthermore, there should not be any intermingling of men and women on the way either. Also, after the salam, one should not be negligent of the prescribed supplications (masnun adhkar).

624. Commentary: Although it is permissible to stand up after the (concluding) salam, in that era the female Companions (sahabiyyat) also used to attend the prayer and they would be in the back rows. Therefore, they were instructed to wait for a short while so that they could leave the mosque before the men. Furthermore, men and women should not intermingle on the way (out). Additionally, this also serves as a reminder not to be neglectful of the prescribed supplications (adhkar) after the salam. Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah writes that the part of this narration regarding “encouragement for prayer” is weak.
