Al-Bara (bin Azib)said; They (the Companions) used to pray along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When he bowed, they bowed; and when he said, “Allah listens to him who praises him”, they remained standing until they saw that he placed his placed his forehead on the ground: then they would follow him ﷺ

Brief Explanation
The follower has been taught the etiquette of following the imam: when the imam goes into bowing (ruku‘), then the follower should bow; similarly, when the imam raises his head, then the follower should raise his head; and when the imam has placed his forehead on the ground, then the follower should prostrate. It is obligatory for the follower to remain behind his imam.
