Husain reported on the authority of the children of Saad bin Muadh that Usaid bin Hudair used to act as their Imam. (when he fell ill) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him inquiring about his illness. They said: Messenger of Allah, our Imam is ill. He said: When he prays sitting, pray sitting. Abu Dawud said: The chain of this tradition is not continuous (muttasil)

➊ According to Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, this hadith is authentic, but this and other narrations of similar meaning are from the early period, in which the ruling was that the imam and the followers should be in the same position, whether standing or sitting. However, in the last prayer led by the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, which he performed sitting, the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma'in stood, so that abrogated the previous ruling.
➋ The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would experience human ailments.
➌ In prayer, it is obligatory for the follower to remain behind the imam in the transitions between postures; he should not precede the imam in any posture.
