Jabir said: when the prophet ﷺ became seriously ill, we prayed behind him while he was sitting and Abu Bakr was calling “Allah is most great “ to cause the people to hear the TAKBIR. Then he (the narrators) narrated the rest of the tradition.

606. Commentary: ➊ If the imam is ill, he may lead the prayer while sitting, but the followers (muqtadis) must perform the prayer standing. ➋ To convey the imam’s takbir (declaration of “Allahu Akbar”) to the people, a prompter (mukabbir) may assist him. And nowadays, the device of the loudspeaker (mukabbir al-sawt) fulfills these needs.
