Hadith 5272

Narrated Abu Usayd al-Ansari: Abu Usayd heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say when he was coming out of the mosque, and men and women were mingled in the road: Draw back, for you must not walk in the middle of the road; keep to the sides of the road. Then women were keeping so close to the wall that their garments were rubbing against it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:

It is proper etiquette for women that they should always walk behind men.

While walking on the road or in the street, instead of walking right in the middle, they should walk to one side; this manner is a sign of their modesty and dignity, and in this there is safety for them as well, so that no miscreant can harass them.

Some scholars have classified this narration as hasan (good).
