Hadith 5263

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone kills a gecko with the first blow, such and such number of good deeds will be recorded for him, if he kills it with the second blow, such and such number of good deeds will be recorded for him less than the former; and if he kills it with the third blow, such and such number of good deeds will be recorded for him, less than the former.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has given the glad tidings of greater reward for killing (the prey) on the first strike, so that one may aim and strike with full attention and care, and so that it does not escape. Furthermore, this way, the animal will not suffer or be caused excessive pain. If it is killed on the second or third strike, there remains the possibility of it escaping and it will also experience more pain. Above all, this will serve as practice for improving one’s aim.

Explanation:
1:
In India, people mistakenly consider the chameleon to be the "wazagh" and think that killing it is a meritorious act, whereas it generally lives in forests and bushes. The lizard, on the other hand, is found in homes along with its harmful effects. Therefore, killing it is the act of killing a harmful creature, for which there is also a reward.

2:
It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim that killing it with the first strike earns one hundred rewards, with the second strike less than that, and with the third even less. Imam Nawawi says: The reason for the abundance of rewards for killing it with the first strike is so that people hasten to kill it and, by doing so, become deserving of the mentioned reward.

Benefits and Issues:

.
As for the lizard (which is found in houses and forests, and the chameleon is larger than it), it is reported that it participated in blowing on the fire against Ibrahim (alayhis salam), and in any case, it is a very poisonous creature. For this reason, we have been commanded to kill it, and a Muslim should be courageous and have perfect aim.
That is why the mentioned reward has been stated; in some narrations, it is mentioned that killing it with the first strike earns one hundred good deeds.

Benefits and Issues:
The reward for killing with the first blow is greater because even in killing, it is commanded to adopt the best method so that the animal's soul departs quickly.
This is an expression of mercy in killing, and also because killing with a single blow demonstrates zeal and strength in fulfilling the command, which is commendable.
