518. Commentary:
➊ It is the responsibility of the imam to lead the prayer according to the correct Sunnah. In supplications, he should include his followers and not specify them only for himself, etc.
➋ The mu’adhdhin’s (caller to prayer) adhan is a public announcement that the time for prayer, pre-dawn meal, or breaking the fast has arrived. Therefore, reliance should be placed upon it, and it is obligatory for him to be fully conscious of his responsibility.
➌ Leading the prayer (imamah) and being a mu’adhdhin are among the most dignified positions in the Islamic society. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has mentioned their virtue. Therefore, they should be given complete honor and respect, and one should refrain from unnecessary disparagement or fault-finding regarding them. In reality, these positions should be given, after due consideration, only to those who are qualified.
