Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
A person—and according to ‘Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah, it was our master Sa‘d radi Allahu anhu—came and stood at the door of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and began to seek permission (to enter).
‘Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah clarified that he stood directly in front of the door.
So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to him: “Stand to this side or to that side.
The command to seek permission is due to the gaze (i.e., so that a person does not look inside).”
