English Commentary:
1:
That is, the imam is the overseer and guardian of the prayer of the followers (muqtadis), because the validity of the followers’ prayer depends on the validity of the imam’s prayer. Therefore, it is necessary for him to observe the etiquettes of purification (taharah) and the etiquettes of prayer.

2:
That is, people rely on his call to prayer (adhan) to perform their prayers and to begin their fasts. Therefore, he should be mindful of the correct time, neither giving the adhan before its time nor delaying it.

3:
That is, may he be granted the awareness of the responsibility he has undertaken and the ability to fulfill it.

4:
That is, may Allah forgive them for any shortcomings they may have in fulfilling this trust.

Benefit:
In this hadith, the muezzin and the imam are strongly instructed that performing the prayer—one of the most important pillars of Islam—at its prescribed time is extremely necessary. If the muezzin and the imam show negligence, then there will be a deficiency in this most important pillar, namely “prayer.” In fact, beyond this, the imam and muezzin are connected to the entire village and neighborhood, which further increases the importance of the imam and muezzin, that they must always remain alert.
