The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by al-Bara bin Azil from the prophet ﷺ to the same effect through a different chain of narrators. One transmitter said: when you go to your bed while you are in the state of purification. The other said: Perform ablution like the ablution for prayer. He then transmitted the tradition to the effect as Mu’tamir transmitted.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
➊
Performing ablution (wudu) before sleeping, lying on the right side, and reciting the prescribed supplications (duas) or at least one of them are extremely emphasized Sunnahs.
➋
It is preferable that after the supplication, there should be no further conversation.
➌
In matters of Shariah, especially acts of worship, it is not permissible to make additions or omissions according to one’s own wishes.
To the extent that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not even accept the replacement of a single word of this supplication with another word of similar meaning.
Whereas some people say that it makes no difference if done this way.
In reality, it makes a great difference.
And only that person can understand this,
in whose heart the love of the Sunnah is firmly rooted.
➍
It is obligatory upon parents and guardians
to strive from the very beginning to mold the habits of young children according to the Sunnah.
