Ibn Abbas reported the Prophet ﷺ as saying: If anyone makes a representation of anything, Allah will punish him on the day of Resurrection for it until he breathes into it, but he will bw unable to do so. If anyone pretends to have had a dream which he did not see, he will gives the task of joining barley-seed. If anyone listens to other people’s talk when they try to avoid him, lead will be poured into his ears on the Day of resurrection.

Benefits and Issues:
➊
By "picture" is meant making an image of a living being.
Or such images may also be included in this,
which people worship,
whether it is of a tree or a mountain, etc.
➋
Whether these images are made by hand,
or by camera and the like, all fall under the same category.
The interpretations that declare camera images to be permissible are meaningless.
A person of faith should have unconditional faith in and act upon the apparent commands of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
(May Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, protect from the trial of images.
Ameen.)
➌
To fabricate and narrate false dreams from oneself,
or to relate the dreams of others, is a major sin (kabirah).
And when the purpose of this is to play with people's religion and faith, its reprehensibility increases even more,
as is the habit of so-called ignorant Sufis and spiritual guides (pirs).
➍
To attempt to listen to the hidden and private matters of others is a major sin (kabirah).

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The image-maker will be subjected to torment beyond his capacity; this is called ta‘liq bil-muhal (making something conditional upon the impossible).
From this it is clear that the punishment for the image-maker will not end, because he will be tormented by being ordered to blow a soul into the image, and the limit of the punishment is until he blows a soul into it, while he will never be able to do so.
This means that the image-maker will remain in punishment forever.
Perhaps this punishment is for that image-maker who, by making images, goes outside the fold of Islam, such as one who makes an idol that is worshipped besides Allah; doing so is manifest disbelief (kufr).
(2)
The reason for this hadith being mentioned is that a carpenter from Iraq came to Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) and said:
I make images and statues; what is your opinion regarding them? So he narrated this hadith.
(Fath al-Bari: 10/484)
And Allah knows best.

Hadith Commentary:
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has narrated this in the Book of Clothing from Abdula'la, who narrated from Sa'id ibn Abi Arubah, who narrated from Nadr, who narrated from Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu.
From this hadith, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has derived the dislike (karahah) and prohibition (hurmah) of statues.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
From this hadith, it is understood that making images of living beings (dhī rūḥ) is prohibited, whether it is by hand or by camera, whether it is three-dimensional or printed on paper; in any circumstance, making images of living beings is not permissible.
On this basis, adopting image-making and photography as a profession is also legally impermissible, as is explicitly stated in the aforementioned hadith: the person who came to Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) had image-making as his means of livelihood, and he was warned with a severe threat because of it.
However, from the advice of Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu), Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has deduced that making images of non-living things and their buying and selling is permissible.
In the mentioned chapter heading, its permissibility has been stated.
(2)
The hadith to which Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) referred at the end, he himself has narrated it further on with a connected chain.
Its wording is as follows:
“Whoever made an image in this world, he will be commanded on the Day of Resurrection to breathe life into what he created, but he will never be able to breathe life into it.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Libas, Hadith: 5963)
In another narration:
“Whoever made an image will be punished on the Day of Resurrection.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Ta‘bir, Hadith: 7042)
We will present our position regarding image-making in Kitab al-Libas, insha’Allah.

Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
It is as if he will not be commanded only to blow the soul, but rather he will also be subjected to continuous punishment. Until he blows the soul, he will be kept in torment, and he will never be able to blow the soul; therefore, he will spend the entire Day of Resurrection in punishment, humiliation, and reproach. And indeed, this will be an extremely severe punishment. Astaghfirullah.

Benefit:
In this hadith, the condemnation of making images is mentioned. It is forbidden (haram) to eavesdrop in order to listen to someone's private conversation or meeting, as is also stated in the hadith. Furthermore, from this hadith, the prohibition of narrating a false dream is established. Some people, in order to gain status among others, fabricate dreams and narrate them to people; such individuals are committing a major sin (kabirah).
