Narrated Buraydah ibn al-Hasib: The Prophet ﷺ said: Do not call a hypocrite sayyid (master), for if he is a sayyid, you will displease your Lord, Most High.

Brief Explanation
1؎: Because you called him "Sayyid" (master) and thus honored him, even though he is not deserving of such honor, and if he is not a Sayyid in any of those meanings, then your calling him "Sayyid" will be a lie and hypocrisy.

Benefits and Issues: The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: (And to Allah belongs all honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers) (: Al-Munafiqun: 8). Honor belongs only to Allah, to His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and to the believers. It is not permissible to honor a hypocrite in this manner.
