Narrated Abu Bakrah: Saeed ibn AbulHasan said: When Abu Bakrah came to us to give some evidence, a man got up from his place, but he refused to sit in it saying: The Prophet ﷺ forbade this, and the Prophet ﷺ forbade anyone to wipe his hand on the garment of anyone whose clothing he had not himself provided.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ This narration is weak in its chain of transmission; however, the matters mentioned within it are established by other ahadith.
➋ The person who is already seated has a greater right to remain in his place. In light of other ahadith, if the one who stands up does so with heartfelt willingness, then it is also permissible, as has been mentioned in the Book of Prayer (Kitab al-Salat), that it is not permissible to sit in someone’s place of honor except if he himself grants permission.
➌ It is in no way permissible to wipe one’s hands on another’s clothing without permission, as this constitutes using another’s property, except in the case where the other is under one’s guardianship, such as one’s own son, slave, or wife. This is because their clothing and property are considered the property of the guardian.
