Hadith 4824

حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ، عَنْ ابْنِ فُضَيْلٍ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا ، قَالَ : كَأَنَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَاعَةَ .
Al-Amash said: it seems he liked collective gathering.

Benefits and Issues:
If the subject of the gathering is one, then it is preferable and recommended that everyone sit in a single circle.
However, if the subjects are different, then forming separate circles is permissible, as is common among students of knowledge and people of particular interests.
It should be noted that forming circles while waiting for the congregational prayer is considered blameworthy; rather, one should sit in order, forming rows.
