Hadith 4815

Abu Saeed al-Khudri reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as sayings: Avoid sitting in the roads. The people said: Messenger of Allah! We must have meeting places in which to converse. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If you insist on meeting, give the road its due. They asked: What is the due of roads, Messenger of Allah? He replied: Lowering the eyes, removing anything offensive, returning salutation, commanding what is reputable and forbidding what is disreputable.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
To sit idly and unnecessarily in pathways and public squares is not the conduct of honorable people.
A state of necessity and compulsion is a different matter.
This especially causes harm to women who observe modesty (purdah).
If the members of such gatherings are not characterized by religion and piety, then unwarranted comments are also made about passersby, which in no way befits Muslims.
And if someone has come as a guest, then holding a gathering with him right on the roadside is not honoring him.
In any case, when sitting by the roadside, it is necessary to observe the aforementioned Islamic guidelines.
