حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ ، أخبرنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمِيرَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، قَالَ : " كُنْتُ فِي الْبَطْحَاءِ فِي عِصَابَةٍ فِيهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَرَّتْ بِهِمْ سَحَابَةٌ ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا ، فَقَالَ : مَا تُسَمُّونَ هَذِهِ ؟ , قَالُوا : السَّحَابَ ، قَالَ : وَالْمُزْنَ , قَالُوا : وَالْمُزْنَ ، قَالَ : وَالْعَنَانَ ، قَالُوا : وَالْعَنَانَ , قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد : لَمْ أُتْقِنْ الْعَنَانَ جَيِّدًا ، قَالَ : هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَا بُعْدُ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ؟ قَالُوا : لَا نَدْرِي ، قَالَ : إِنَّ بُعْدَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا : إِمَّا وَاحِدَةٌ ، أَوِ اثْنَتَانِ ، أَوْ ثَلَاثٌ وَسَبْعُونَ سَنَةً ، ثُمَّ السَّمَاءُ فَوْقَهَا كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى عَدَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ ، ثُمَّ فَوْقَ السَّابِعَةِ بَحْرٌ بَيْنَ أَسْفَلِهِ وَأَعْلَاهُ مِثْلُ مَا بَيْنَ سَمَاءٍ إِلَى سَمَاءٍ ، ثُمَّ فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِيَةُ أَوْعَالٍ بَيْنَ أَظْلَافِهِمْ وَرُكَبِهِمْ مِثْلُ مَا بَيْنَ سَمَاءٍ إِلَى سَمَاءٍ ، ثُمَّ عَلَى ظُهُورِهِمُ الْعَرْشُ مَا بَيْنَ أَسْفَلِهِ وَأَعْلَاهُ مِثْلُ مَا بَيْنَ سَمَاءٍ إِلَى سَمَاءٍ ، ثُمَّ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ " .
Narrated Al-Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib: I was sitting in al-Batha with a company among whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting, when a cloud passed above them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at it and said: What do you call this? They said: Sahab. He said: And muzn? They said: And muzn. He said: And anan? They said: And anan. Abu Dawud said: I am not quite confident about the word anan. He asked: Do you know the distance between Heaven and Earth? They replied: We do not know. He then said: The distance between them is seventy-one, seventy-two, or seventy-three years. The heaven which is above it is at a similar distance (going on till he counted seven heavens). Above the seventh heaven there is a sea, the distance between whose surface and bottom is like that between one heaven and the next. Above that there are eight mountain goats the distance between whose hoofs and haunches is like the distance between one heaven and the next. Then Allah, the Blessed and the Exalted, is above that.

Tirmidhi — Hadith 3320
´Al-Ahnaf bin Wais narrated :` from Al-Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib who claimed that he was sitting in Al-Batha with a group, and the Messenger of Allah was sitting amongst them, when a cloud passed over them. They looked at it, and the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Di you know what its name it?’ They said: ‘Yes. This is As-Sahab (cloud).’ The Messenger of Allah saidl: ‘Al-Muzn (rain cloud)?’ They said: ‘Yes. This is As-Sahab (cloud).’ Then the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Do you know how much distance there is between the heavens and the earth?’ They said: ‘No, by Allah we do not know.’ He said: ‘The distance between every two of them is either seventy-one, or two, or three, years, and the heaven that is above that one is like that.’ Until he enumerated Seven heavens like that. Then he said: ‘Above the seventh heaven is a sea, Between its highest part and its lowest is just as there is between one heaven to another heaven. Then above their backs is the Throne. Between its lowest and highest parts is the same as what is between one heaven to another heaven, and Allah is above that.’”

Explanation:
1:
These three names are different names for clouds, which have been designated for various types of clouds.

2:
That is, if this hadith had been narrated during the Hajj season and the Jahmiyyah had come to know of it, they would not have raised unnecessary objections.

Note:
(In the chain of narration, Abdullah bin Umairah is a narrator who is lenient in hadith.)
