Hadith 4680

Ibn Abbas said: when the Prophet ﷺ turned towards the Kaabah (in prayer), the people asked: Messenger of Allah ﷺ! what will happen with those who died while they prayed with their faces towards Jerusalem ? Allah the Exalted, then revealed: “And never would Allah make your faith of no effect. ”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
In this noble verse, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has referred to an action—prayer (salah)—as faith (iman). It is thus understood that actions are a part of faith, and through the perfection of actions, faith becomes complete; otherwise, there is deficiency in it.

Explanation:
1:
Allah, the Exalted, will not let your faith go to waste (: al-Baqarah: 143), meaning:
He will not let the prayers performed facing Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) go to waste, because at that time this was the divine command.
In this verse, "faith" (iman) refers to "prayer" (salah), not—as some self-styled commentators of the Qur'an, so-called mufassirun, claim—that "faith" itself is meant here.
This is a clear rejection of an authentic hadith.
May Allah pardon him.

(There is some confusion (idtirab) in the narration of Samak from Ikrimah in the chain of transmission,
but this hadith is authentic due to being strengthened by the hadith of al-Bara’ radi Allahu anhu in Sahih al-Bukhari.)
