Hadith 4641

Awf said: I heard al-Hajjaj addressing the people say: The similitude of Uthman with Allah is like the similitude of Jesus son of Mary. He then recited the following verse and explained it: “Behold! Allah said: O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehood) of those who blaspheme. ” He was making a sign with his hand to us and to the people of Syria.

Hadith Takhrij «
Brief Explanation
1؎: This is the worst kind of interpretation based on personal opinion (tafsir bi’l-ra’y). Hajjaj applied this noble verse to himself and his opponents, even though it had no connection to the actual reality. Even today, some people of innovation (ahl al-bid‘ah) continue to interpret Qur’anic verses according to their own whims, presenting the people of truth (ahl al-haqq) as people of falsehood, and portraying the followers of falsehood as the people of truth.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
The meaning of the statement was that just as Allah Ta'ala granted dominance to Isa (alayhis salam) and his followers over the disbelievers, similarly, the followers of Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) are those who are ruling over the entire land of Shaam, while the others who oppose them are subdued.
