Ibn Umar reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: If we left this door for women (it would have been better). Nafi said: Ibn Umar did not enter (the door) until his death. The other except Abd al-Warith said: This was said by Umar (and not by Ibn Umar) and that is more correct.

Brief Explanation
1؎: Because by this, there will not be intermingling and association between women and men in coming to and going from the mosque.

462. Commentary: ➊ It is evident that when even in a pure place and environment like the mosque, the mixing of women and men is not permitted, then at other places and occasions, even greater caution is required. ➋ The author of Awn al-Ma‘bud writes that this hadith can be both marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and mawquf (attributed to a Companion). ‘Abd al-Warith is trustworthy, and his addition is acceptable.
