Hadith 4613

Nafi said: Ibn Umar had a friend from the people of Syria who used to correspond with him. Abdullah bin Umar wrote to him: I have been informed that you have talked something about Divine decree. You should write it to me, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Among my community there will be people who will falsify Divine decree.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
The disassociation (announcement of dissociation) by Abdullah radi Allahu anhu was an expression of hatred for the sake of Allah (bughd fi Allah), and without doubt, the foundation of the friendship and displeasure of the people of faith, and their remaining attached to his religion, is based precisely upon this.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The Magians believe in two gods: one creator of good, whom they call Yazdan, and another creator of evil, whom they name Ahriman. Similarly, those who deny predestination (qadar) consider good to be created by Allah and evil to be created by other than Allah. However, in creation and origination, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has no partner or associate, nor is anyone dominant over Him. He, in His wisdom, created evil and Satan, and for mankind, the meaning of Allah’s will (mashiyyah) and pleasure (rida) are always two separate things. Whatever happens, certainly happens only by the divine will; without it, neither good nor bad can occur. However, it is not necessary that it be beloved to Allah, the Exalted. Allah, the Exalted, only loves those deeds which He has commanded to be done. The rest of the deeds are disliked, though they too occur only by His will.

➋ In order to protect the Shariah values in an Islamic society, it is necessary to boycott atheists and people of corrupt beliefs, so that the honor of the believer may be manifested and so that such people feel separated from the believers. However, it is obligatory upon the people of knowledge to present the truth before them and to point out their errors.

➌ Some scholars have declared this hadith to be hasan (good).

Hadith Authentication:
The chain of narration for this report is weak. (However, the hadith itself is authentic.)
Al-Hakim [85/1] and other hadith scholars have also narrated it, but its chain is disconnected (munqati‘).
Abu Hazim Salamah ibn Dinar did not hear from Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma. See: Tahdhib al-Kamal [431/7]
◈ (Abdul Aziz) Ibn Abi Hazim said:
“Whoever tells you that my father heard from any companion of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam other than Sahl ibn Sa‘d radi Allahu anhu, he has lied.”
◈ In al-Mu‘jam al-Awsat of al-Tabarani [114/5 ح 4217] there is a sound corroborating narration (shahid) for this.
◈ For the narration of Humayd al-Tawil from our master Anas radi Allahu anhu, see:
◈ Our master Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma said regarding the Qadariyyah:
“They are the Magians of this Ummah.” [
◈ Imam al-Bayhaqi, in Kitab al-Qadr [ح410], narrated a report of this meaning from the chain of «سفيان (الثوري) عن عمر بن محمد عن نافع عن ابن عمر» and said: «هٰذا إسناد صحيح إلا أنه موقوف»!
